All the instruments are easy to play and are fun. The freestyle, training, and solo mode allow to progress at your own pace. Fun game for all ages!

Rock on on Rock Band 2 Special! This is an air-guitarist's dream!
When I was a kid, me and my cousins would go out on the back deck and set up a small faux stage with plastic toy instruments, set up a cheap stereo as loud as it'd go and jump up and down pretending we were playing the hard rock and metal songs we were listening to at the time.
Needless to say, if Rock Band 2 Special Edition was available 25 years ago, we never would have stopped!
The song catalog is good, with a lot of downloadable content and frankly, Rock Band 2 Special is the most fun I've had with a video game in a long time! Rock Band 2 Special Edition is a little costly for the full set, but this is easily one of the best "party" games you'll ever have for your system and unless you're a tone-deaf person with no rhythm and hate music, you'll enjoy Rock Band 2 Special Edition. There's a good mix of modern music and oldies in the game, but it's definitely slanted to pop/rock/metal - there are packs for other genres such as country-western, but I haven't messed with those. I'd expect they'd be quite fun. My only complaints are as follows. I don't care for the fact that you have to play to unlock all the songs - they should all be available from the get-go. There is a code workaround for this (check the web) but it's annoying. Also, for some reason on the Wii, Rock Band 2 Special Edition will not let you use a SD card larger than 2 GB, even though the Wii with it's updates can access those cards. This is annoying, as the downloaded content takes up quite a lot of space. Otherwise, very fun!

Rock Band 2 Special - Good Stuff
I don't really need to explain the basic premise of Rock Band 2 Special Edition, you know what you're getting with this game. Some things to consider are that the song buying on Wii is a little different than on other consoles, you can't buy full albums on the Wii online store, and a lot of services that are being deployed for the 360 and ps3 will take a while to get to the Wii (the rock band network or whatever).
I was surprised how high quality the insturments were. These instruments aren't the ones that first came out with the game, they're nicer. The guitar has a fake wood finish and feel that blew me away. The guitar plays like a dream, all instruments are wireless except for the mic. I was very happy with the peripherals of Rock Band 2 Special.
